Summary
- Kim Kardashian backs bill for minimum wage for prison firefighters.
- The legislation aims to eliminate deductions from inmate wages.
- Kardashian observed inmates risking lives during Los Angeles fires.

Reality star Kim Kardashian is actively supporting a new bill introduced by Senator Cory Booker that aims to provide minimum wage for incarcerated individuals working as firefighters. Kardashian's personal involvement stems from observing prisoners' significant contributions and bravery during the destructive Los Angeles wildfires last year.
The bill, reintroduced on March 19, seeks to amend the Fair Labor Standards Act, mandating minimum wage for working prisoners and removing substantial deductions for fees and living costs. Kardashian emphasized the unfairness of inmates receiving minimal pay despite risking their lives, noting that they are often barred from future firefighting jobs upon release.
Last year, Kardashian previously advocated for increased recognition and higher wages for these inmate firefighters, who earned less than $1 per hour. Nearly 1,000 inmates assisted in combating wildfires that burned over 40,000 acres. During the crisis, Kardashian also faced criticism for promoting a SKIMS sale amidst the fires and later warned fans about fraudulent fundraising emails using her name.
Her sister, Khloé Kardashian, also urged donations for affected victims and firefighters, highlighting their exhaustion and need for support. Khloé provided ways for people to contribute, including donating supplies and financial aid through a neighbor's Venmo.
