In a Paris civil damages case, reality TV star Kim Kardashian was awarded a symbolic €1 ($1.15) on September 15, 2026. This award is from the thieves who tied her up and robbed her at gunpoint in a Paris hotel during 2016. The stolen items included millions in jewels, notably her $4 million engagement ring from then-husband Kanye West (now Ye).
The convicted robbers, infamously known as the "Grandpa Robbers," disguised themselves as police officers for the daring heist. This robbery was, at the time, the largest in France in two decades. Most of the stolen jewels were never recovered. A hotel receptionist, also a plaintiff, sought €500,000 in damages and was awarded approximately €110,000.
During court proceedings in 2025, Kardashian testified about the traumatic events and stated she forgave the robbery's mastermind, Aomar Ait Khedache, who was 69 at the time. He was jailed for three years, alongside seven other individuals convicted for their involvement in the 2016 heist.
