Kiln, a novel multiplayer online pottery party brawler from Double Fine, is set to launch on April 23. The game will be available on Xbox Series X/S, Xbox on PC, Xbox Cloud, PlayStation 5, and Steam. Players enter a virtual pottery studio to shape clay into vessels on a wheel, then personalize them with decorations. The dimensions and form of each creation directly influence its combat attributes, such as health, water capacity, and movement speed, allowing for diverse strategic gameplay. Different vessel shapes, like bowls or bottles, unlock unique special abilities, adding another layer to the brawler mechanics.
The core experience is centered around the Quench mode, where two teams of four players compete to be the first to extinguish the opposing team's kiln three times. This objective involves gathering water and engaging in direct combat, where players can attempt to smash enemy vessels. The game's maps feature interactive elements, including sponge-based water barriers and a "disco dance floor" that temporarily compels players to dance. While in-game voice chat is absent, players can utilize console party features or external applications like Discord for communication.
An open beta for Kiln is scheduled to run on Steam from April 9 to April 11, coinciding with the start of pre-orders. The base game will be priced at $20, with a "Fired Up" edition available for $30, offering premium cosmetic items and in-game currency for unlocking customizations earned through gameplay.
