For fifteen years, from 1987 to 2002, Shepard was a guiding presence on "Showtime at the Apollo," which originated from Harlem's famed Apollo Theater. During her tenure, she became widely recognized as the "Apollo Queen of Fashion."
Shepard's career extended beyond the "Apollo" stage. Her acting credits include notable roles in television dramas like "A Different World" and "Baywatch," as well as appearances in "NYPD Blue" and "Grey's Anatomy."
Born in Tyler, Texas, in July 1951, Shepard was also a talented dancer and theater performer. She attended Howard University and was a foundational member of the D. C. Repertory Dance Company.
