Chaplin Granddaughter Engaged After Scandal

Kiera Chaplin, the granddaughter of silent film icon Charlie Chaplin, has announced her engagement to Swiss financier Mauricio Safdie. The model and actress shared the happy news on social media, posting a photograph of Safdie proposing.

This joyful occasion follows a tumultuous period in Chaplin's past. Her prior engagement to French financier Alexandre de Basseville ended abruptly in 2007 when he received a ten-year prison sentence for money laundering through her film company and drug trafficking offenses.

Chaplin, who lives in Switzerland, met Safdie through mutual friends. She had previously expressed that her life was "ruined" by her last engagement, attributing it to attracting the wrong people and the negative attention associated with the Chaplin name.
