Prithviraj Sukumaran's film Khalifa has faced a disappointing box office run, with collections dipping significantly after its initial release. Despite being part of the Onam season releases, the movie garnered largely negative reviews, impacting audience turnout and revenue. A critical blow came when Khalifa failed to achieve the expected collection boost on Thiruvonam day, a period usually marked by increased cinema attendance.
While the holiday saw "Bethlehem Kudumba Unit" benefit, Khalifa's performance remained below average. The film's total net collection after seven days reached 15.37 crore, with a gross collection of 18.13 crore. Overseas, it added 18.25 crore, bringing the worldwide total to 36.38 crore.
Further competition arrived with the release of Yash's highly anticipated film, "Toxic: A Fairytale For Grown Ups." In their home state of Kerala, Toxic earned 2.1 crore gross, outperforming Khalifa's 1.5 crore gross on the same day. This marks a significant setback for the Vysakh-directed film, which reunited with Prithviraj Sukumaran after their 2011 collaboration "Pokkiriraja."
