KFC Colonel's Home & Rare Recipe Notes Up For Grabs

The real estate and memorabilia belonging to KFC founder Harland Sanders are being offered at public auction. His former Shelbyville home, known as Blackwood Hall, and the Claudia Sanders Dinner House, established by his wife, are part of the sale. This event presents a unique opportunity for collectors globally to acquire pieces of fast-food history.

Among the notable items up for bid is a daily planner belonging to Colonel Sanders. Jonathan Klunk, an auctioneer with the Menish Group, mentioned that handwritten notes of the 11 herbs and spices appear in the planner's back. However, he clarified that this specific recipe was confirmed as not original in a 2001 lawsuit.

The collection also features other personal effects, including one of Sanders' signature black bow ties, photographs, letters from US presidents, and his engraved pressure cooker and personal stove. This commercial stove was used at Blackwood Hall for franchise training, serving as an early classroom for preparing chicken.

The current owners, Cherry Settle and her late husband Tommy, purchased the property from the Sanders in 1974. The collection is expected to draw significant interest from museums, private collectors, franchise operators, and food historians, with considerable interest anticipated from Japan. A public preview is set for July 27, followed by the live auction on July 28.
