Kevin Hart is teaming up with director McG for a high-concept action comedy currently in development at Netflix. This collaboration marks McG's return to the genre that launched his feature film career over 25 years ago with Charlie's Angels.
Producing the untitled project are prominent figures including Shawn Levy and Ryan Reynolds through their respective banners, 21 Laps and Maximum Effort. This partnership continues Levy and Reynolds' frequent collaborations on successful films like Deadpool & Wolverine and Free Guy.
The film's logline centers on two rival spies who unexpectedly cross paths during a Lamaze class, only to discover their wives have quickly become friends. This comical yet dangerous convergence of their double lives forces the spies into reluctant partnership as they navigate impending fatherhood.
Penned by Adam and Aaron Nee, known for The Lost City, the script also features contributions from Jonathan Tropper, a frequent collaborator of Shawn Levy. The story is based on a short story by Sean Lewis.
Both Hart and McG have established significant ties with Netflix. Hart has several projects with the streamer, including an upcoming comedy special and a directed series. McG has exclusively produced his last five films for Netflix, focusing on teen-oriented genres and family comedies.
McG's directorial history includes the iconic Charlie's Angels films, Terminator: Salvation, and the spy-themed This Means War, indicating a strong foundation in action and espionage narratives.
