In April 2018, a massive fire engulfed and destroyed the set of Akshay Kumar's film 'Kesari', causing an estimated Rs 8 crore in damages. The incident occurred during the filming of the climax sequence. SFX supervisor Vishal Tyagi recently shared that the blaze raged for nearly two hours, with the crew unable to intervene due to a severe lack of safety measures on set. Tyagi recounted that budget constraints prevented essential safety equipment from Mumbai, and a foreign action director's request for a fire element contributed to the disaster.
Tyagi admitted he miscalculated the flammability of the PV foam used in the set's construction. Despite the absence of casualties, the experience profoundly impacted him. It taught him the critical importance of saying no when safety protocols are not met, a lesson learned the hard way after being questioned by Dharma Productions. However, director Anurag Singh provided crucial support, acknowledging that the fault was not solely Tyagi's, which helped de-escalate the situation.
