Netflix True Crime: A Kentucky Neighbor's Deadly Rage

A harrowing neighbor dispute in Mount Sterling, Kentucky, that resulted in a fatal shooting is now chronicled in the Netflix series 'Worst Neighbor Ever.' The inaugural episode, titled 'She Finally Snapped,' recounts the escalating tensions between the Scott family and their neighbor, Frances Zaayer.

Shawna and David Scott moved to Mount Sterling in 2002. They later befriended Frances Zaayer, who moved across the street in 2016. Their relationship quickly soured, marked by increasing control from Zaayer and racist behavior, leading to her eviction from the Scotts' home in January 2017.

The conflict intensified with disputes over property lines and social media harassment. Tensions peaked when Zaayer broke into the Scott residence on May 26, 2018, fatally shooting David Scott and critically wounding Shawna. Zaayer pleaded guilty to murder in 2022 and received a 35-year prison sentence, with eligibility for parole in 2038.

Zaayer is currently incarcerated at the Kentucky Correctional Institution for Women in Shelby County. The story serves as a cautionary tale featured in the true crime series, highlighting the devastating consequences of neighborly conflict.
