Kendal Calling Bans BBQs Amid Fire Risk
28 Jul
Summary
- Disposable and charcoal barbecues are banned at Kendal Calling.
- Dry weather has left the festival grounds at high risk of fire.
- Gas camping stoves and some gas barbecues are permitted.
This year's Kendal Calling festival will prohibit disposable and charcoal barbecues due to the current dry weather conditions. The annual music event, scheduled to take place from Thursday to Sunday, anticipates around 40,000 attendees. Organizers stated that recent sunshine has left the ground "incredibly dry" and the grass "well and truly parched," creating a significant fire hazard.
To ensure the safety of everyone at the festival, the ban on these types of barbecues has been implemented. Organizers highlighted that disposable and charcoal models can remain hot for hours and are often left unattended, posing a greater risk in the current parched environment. Gas camping stoves and some gas barbecues are permitted, with the condition that they use gas canisters of 240g or less, as these can be switched off immediately after use.
