Keith Urban, known for his country music roots, is set to release his 2026 album, 'Flow State,' which dives into the yacht rock genre. The album features 10 covers of soft rock classics from the late 1970s and early 1980s, alongside an original track. This unexpected genre shift began organically when Urban restored his Nashville studio, The Sound, and experimented with session musicians, finding joy in the 'loosely defined genre.'

This project evolved from a potential EP into a full-length album, with Urban aiming to honor the spirit of the original songs while adding his unique sonic touch, notably through extended outros. 'Flow State' includes collaborations with Little Big Town on "Magnet and Steel" and John Mayer on "The Guitar Man." The album's sole original song, "We Go Back," a nostalgic piece co-written in 2020, features Michael McDonald on the chorus, fulfilling a long-held creative vision.

Urban views the yacht rock songs on 'Flow State' as an antidote to divisiveness, providing a joyful escape.
