Katie Couric: My Lady Gaga Story Idea Was Reassigned
25 Jun
Summary
- Couric pitched a Lady Gaga profile to '60 Minutes' which was rejected.
- Her story idea was later assigned to Anderson Cooper, frustrating her.
- She also experienced a similar situation with a Hillary Clinton profile.

During a recent interview on the 'Call Her Daddy' podcast, journalist Katie Couric detailed her experiences at CBS, revealing instances where her story ideas were reassigned. Couric explained her dream was to work for '60 Minutes' and that she pitched a profile on Lady Gaga, who was then a rising star.
Initially, a producer told Couric that the executive producer at the time, Jeff Fager, did not like her and found the idea "not for us." A year later, Couric learned that '60 Minutes' was planning a piece on Lady Gaga, but the assignment had gone to Anderson Cooper.
Couric expressed her frustration, noting that she had proposed a different angle focusing on Gaga's background. A similar situation occurred when she was tasked with profiling Hillary Clinton as Secretary of State. Couric was later informed that another correspondent, Scott Pelley, was already pursuing a feature on Clinton, which Couric described as being "gaslit."
