In December 2025, acclaimed actress Kate Winslet will make her directorial debut with the personal family drama "Goodbye June." The film, which Winslet's son Joe Anders wrote, is set to premiere in select theaters on December 12th before streaming on Netflix on December 24th.
The story follows four adult siblings who are thrown into chaos when their mother, June, faces an unexpected health crisis. As they come together to support her, the siblings must confront their own complicated relationships and dynamics. Winslet, who lost her own mother to cancer in 2017, says she could relate to the emotional turmoil the characters experience.
"Some of the most trying relationships in our lives can often be with the people we love the most dearly in the world, and that fascinates me," Winslet explains. "I didn't want to shy away from the reality of that. Loss happens to us all and can bring about acutely odd moments with loved ones that rarely ever occur outside of those situations."
Winslet has assembled an impressive ensemble cast for "Goodbye June," including Toni Collette, Johnny Flynn, Andrea Riseborough, Timothy Spall, and Helen Mirren. The director says assembling this talented group was the "most exciting part" of the process, as she sought actors who could navigate the film's emotional landscape with authenticity and nuance.
"There was something about them all that just made sense when assembled as a fictional family," Winslet says. "So it was truly incredible when they all agreed to come on board."
