Emmy-Winning Comedian Kate McKinnon Pens Quirky Book Series for Young Readers

Kate McKinnon, a former cast member of "Saturday Night Live" who earned two Emmy Awards during her 11-season run, has recently turned her attention to writing a new book series for young readers. The series, titled "The Millicent Quibb School of Etiquette for Young Ladies of Mad Science," follows the Porch sisters as they team up with their professor, the infamous mad scientist Millicent Quibb, to save the guests of the Purple Pearl Hotel from a looming threat.

McKinnon, who describes the characters as "quirky girls," says the central theme of the series is about embracing one's unique personality, even when it feels isolating. She encourages readers to "keep doing it" and not hide their quirks, as that is what the world ultimately needs to move forward.

The bestselling author, who recently finished recording the audiobook for her latest work with her sister, a fellow comedian, says that for her, "everything starts with a voice and a hairdo." She dedicates the book to her sister, whom she calls "the love of my life" and her "best friend."

As for the role of comedy in today's world, McKinnon believes that political satire is vital for a functioning society, and that "goofiness and laughter are vital, not only art, but in between people." She says that kindness, joy, and laughter are important reasons for being alive, and that is what she aims to bring to her readers.
