Acclaimed author Kate Atkinson has received the prestigious Lifetime Achievement Award from the Saltire Society. This significant recognition was bestowed during the annual Saltire: Scotland's National Book Awards ceremony in Edinburgh. Atkinson, celebrated for her intricate narratives and compelling characters, expressed profound gratitude, calling it a "tremendous honour."
Atkinson's extensive bibliography includes 13 novels, such as the critically acclaimed 'Life After Life' and the popular Jackson Brodie detective series. Her contributions have also been acknowledged with an MBE and as a Fellow of the Royal Society of Literature. Mairi Kidd of the Saltire Society lauded Atkinson as a "superb ambassador for Scotland."
The ceremony also highlighted emerging talent and celebrated winners in main book categories. Sean Lusk's 'A Woman Of Opinion' was named Scotland's Fiction Book of the Year, while Sarah Moss's 'My Good Bright Wolf' won Non-Fiction Book of the Year. Debut authors were also recognized, underscoring Scotland's vibrant literary scene.
