A new science fiction dystopian film is in development, drawing inspiration from Emerson, Lake & Palmer's iconic prog anthem, "Karn Evil 9." The project has secured director Isaac Ezban and screenwriter Tim Hedrick, known for his work on "Avatar: The Last Airbender."
The film's narrative centers on Zak, a gifted but troubled musical prodigy. He is invited to perform at a major festival within a popular video game. There, he uncovers the game's creator's potentially terrifying new technology.
Zak grapples with the belief that this technology could greatly benefit humanity. However, he finds himself hunted by aggressive mercenaries who oppose technological advancement. The film promises an original and epic science fiction exploration of relevant themes.
Director Ezban expressed excitement, calling it a "miracle of a movie" and a dream project. He highlighted the story's unique perspective on AI as a potential ally. Screenwriter Hedrick noted the song's prescience, anticipating themes found in later works like "The Matrix" and "The Terminator."
Radar Pictures is developing the film with cooperation from Emerson, Lake & Palmer and their management. Ted Field, Michael Napoliello, and Maria Frisk are producing, with Carl Palmer, Bruce Pilato, and Stewart Young serving as executive producers.
