In a recent interview, renowned filmmaker Karan Johar has revealed his deep admiration and "obsession" with acclaimed director SS Rajamouli. Johar shared that it was he who approached Rajamouli, not the other way around, to present the blockbuster Baahubali 2: The Conclusion in Hindi.
Johar explained that his fascination with Rajamouli's work began even before Baahubali, as he was a big fan of the director's earlier film Student No. 1. In fact, Johar admitted that the title of his own film Student Of The Year was inspired by Rajamouli's movie. "I am that obsessed with Rajamouli sir. I have watched all his films," Johar said.
The filmmaker also credited actor Rana Daggubati for arranging a meeting between him and Rajamouli, as Johar was eager to be involved with the Baahubali franchise. "Until that time, people from our cinema weren't even aware about the genius of Rajamouli, I knew," Johar added.
Johar went on to praise Rajamouli's Hindi-dubbed film Makkhi, which he believes is "one of the best films ever made," despite it not resonating with Hindi-speaking audiences. "Makkhi wasn't marketed properly," Johar said.
Reflecting on his excitement to present Baahubali 2, Johar stated, "That's why I told him that I think what you've made is spectacular, it's the biggest motion picture of India, and I would love to position it. I was always a big fan and I was very excited about presenting Baahubali."
