The Madras High Court has ruled in favor of the Kapoor family, dismissing a civil suit related to a 2.70-acre property in Sholinganallur, Chennai. This property was purchased in the name of the late actress Sridevi in 1988. The plaintiffs, who claimed to be legal heirs of MC Chandrasekaran, sought partition rights and challenged the 1988 sale deeds, alleging the sellers lacked title.
Boney Kapoor and his daughters, Janhvi and Khushi, successfully argued that the suit was filed approximately four decades after the sale deeds were executed, making it barred by limitation. The court noted discrepancies in the plaintiffs' claims, including the validity of their heir certificate and their awareness of the property transaction.
Justice T. V. Thamilselvi of the Madras High Court set aside a previous order from a Chengalpattu court. The High Court found the plaintiffs' claim of learning about the property only in 2023 to be unbelievable and characterized the suit as a vexatious attempt to seize the property.
