The popular eatery Chinese Garden in Mumbai's Shivaji Park was famously the location for a restobar scene in the 2016 film Kapoor & Sons. This 41-year-old establishment, known for its Indo-Chinese cuisine and retro decor, became a surprising cinematic backdrop.
One of the owners, Anil Pawar, shared that the Kapoor & Sons unit filmed there for two days. He fondly remembered Alia Bhatt as being sweet and posing for pictures with his family. The restaurant's ambiance was deemed suitable for the movie's depiction of a lively drinking spot.
Chinese Garden has also served as a filming location for other productions, including Sanjay Dutt's 1994 film Aatish and several Marathi films. Pawar mentioned Sanjay Dutt's impressive physique during the Aatish shoot and a memorable anecdote about Dutt receiving calls on the restaurant's landline.
However, the restaurant eventually stopped accommodating film shoots to avoid inconveniencing its regular customers and due to logistical issues like traffic jams caused by film units. Pawar emphasized that customer satisfaction remains their top priority, outweighing the financial benefits of film rentals.
