The Bombay High Court, on Wednesday, permitted actor Kangana Ranaut to withdraw a plea she had filed seeking to quash an FIR. This FIR was registered against her at Khar police station in Mumbai back in 2021.
The legal challenge was initiated by Ashish Kaul, an author who claimed exclusive copyrights to the life story of Queen Didda. Kaul alleged that Ranaut used elements of his copyrighted work in a social media announcement for a film titled 'Manikarnika Returns: The Legend of Didda' without his consent.
Ranaut had argued that the inspiration for her film was drawn from historical facts about Queen Didda that are publicly available. She stated her sister had received an unsolicited email regarding the queen, but it remained unacknowledged.
Following Kaul's complaint and an FIR registration directed by a Magistrate court, Ranaut had filed the petition to dismiss the case. The author's representative noted that a previous similar petition by Ranaut had been partly heard. The actor's withdrawal signifies a shift in her legal strategy regarding the ongoing case.
