Kal Penn: Back to Comedy & Controversial Roles

Kal Penn is making a significant return to acting, taking on a leading role as Dr. Sandeep Kapoor in the film 'Trust Me, I'm A Doctor'. The movie delves into Dr. Kapoor's complex professional and personal relationship with Anna Nicole Smith, before her untimely death. Penn found the character's insecurity and vulnerability particularly compelling to portray.

Beyond his dramatic turn, Penn has confirmed a highly anticipated fourth Harold & Kumar film is progressing. He and co-star John Cho have officially signed on, with the script by original writers Jon Hurwitz and Hayden Schlossberg now complete. Penn described the script as one of the funniest he has read in a long time.

Adding to his busy year, Penn also completed a role in Gregg Araki's new film, 'The Decline of Fucking Western Civilization', a project he aggressively pursued due to his long-standing admiration for Araki's filmmaking style. He also featured in a 'terrible person' role in Season 4 of BBC/HBO's 'Industry'.
