Dhulia Revives K. Asif Biopic Dream, Honoring Irrfan Khan

Filmmaker Tigmanshu Dhulia has reaffirmed his dedication to bringing the story of K. Asif, the visionary behind 'Mughal-E-Azam,' to the screen. This ambitious biopic, a project several years in the making, was first envisioned in collaboration with the late, acclaimed actor Irrfan Khan. Dhulia emphasized that the narrative will spotlight K. Asif's brief yet significant directorial career, particularly his arduous journey while helming the monumental 1960 film.

The genesis of this film lies in the deep creative synergy between Dhulia and Irrfan Khan. Their extensive discussions, fueled by a mutual admiration for potent, character-driven storytelling, laid the emotional groundwork for the project. Dhulia acknowledged that while Irrfan's absence presents an emotional challenge, he feels a continued connection, drawing inspiration from their shared vision to complete the film.

Dhulia and Khan shared a rich professional history, beginning with their time at the National School of Drama and continuing through collaborations on films like 'Haasil,' 'Paan Singh Tomar,' and 'Saheb, Biwi Aur Gangster Returns.' Their creative process often involved dissecting single scenes to define a film's emotional core. Dhulia stated that Irrfan's spirit encourages him to proceed, believing the project will eventually be realized.

Irrfan Khan passed away on April 29, 2020, after a battle with a rare form of cancer. Dhulia expressed that he still feels Irrfan's presence, providing creative guidance and motivation to move forward with the K. Asif biopic.
