Watermelon Pictures has acquired "Everything Is Not OK," a documentary directed by Dev Benegal that explores the life of artist Judith Blum Reddy. The film will be available exclusively on Watermelon+, the distributor's streaming platform.
"Everything Is Not OK" delves into Reddy's artistic journey, which has been profoundly shaped by the Holocaust and her personal displacements. The documentary interweaves Reddy's narrative with that of artists Nil Yalter, Zarina, and Camille Billops, highlighting how they transformed experiences of displacement into their art.
Poetry from Palestinian, Kashmiri, and Indian poets complements the film, positioning it as a reflection on reclaiming erased memories of home and resisting silence. Director Dev Benegal stated that art-making for Reddy is an act of confrontation and liberation. Executive producer Annemarie Jacir joined the project due to its themes of memory and resistance.
Jacir and Adam Bakri lend their voices to readings of poetry within the film. The creative team includes Maya S. Patel and Neeraj Jain as producers, with music by Dhruv Goel. Watermelon Pictures, launched in 2024, aims to provide a significant collection of Palestinian films on its Watermelon+ platform.
