Dame Judi Dench is looking back at her experience in the universally criticized 2019 film adaptation of "Cats." In her forthcoming memoir, titled "Is It Too Late to Make a Run For It?," Dench shares her reflections on the musical's disastrous movie version.
She expressed her dismay over the film's reception, stating, "What a waste of all that goodwill and talent." Dench admitted she did not see the final cut and thus could not personally judge it, but understood the critical hostility. She also conveyed that filmmakers rarely intend to deliver subpar performances or create a bad movie.
Dench broadened her perspective to the entertainment industry at large, describing filmmaking as a complex process. She noted that "there were no villains in the making of Cats," and that sometimes projects simply do not succeed due to timing or cast chemistry.
Her memoir, "Is It Too Late to Make a Run For It?," is scheduled for release on November 3.
