9 Oct
Summary
- Ian Hill, longest-serving member, retires from Judas Priest.
- Arthritis in shoulder, hand, and knees hinders performances.
- He will focus on family after 57 years with the band.

Judas Priest bassist Ian Hill has announced his retirement from the band after an impressive 57-year tenure, making him the longest-serving member. Hill cited the advanced state of his arthritis in his left shoulder, right hand, and knees as the primary reason for his departure, stating his performances have begun to suffer.
Despite contributing bass lines to the band's upcoming album, concerns about his ability to complete live shows led to the enlistment of Davey Rimmer as an understudy. A recent injury to Hill's left shoulder further complicated matters, requiring Rimmer to fill in during a European tour stop in Brussels.
Hill, who joined the iconic heavy metal group in 1970, expressed a desire to dedicate his remaining years to his family. He has been a constant presence in Judas Priest, appearing on every studio album since their 1974 debut, Rocka Rolla.
The band, inducted into the Rock and Roll Hall of Fame in 2022, acknowledged Hill's significant contribution and welcomed Rimmer as the new bassist. Judas Priest has no tour dates scheduled until summer 2027.
