Josh Gad is slated to portray Kurt Gerron, a prominent Jewish actor and director in pre-Nazi Germany, in an upcoming film. Gerron, unlike many of his peers, remained in Germany when Hitler rose to power. He was eventually sent to the Theresienstadt (Terezin) ghetto.
There, Gerron was recognized by the camp commander, a fan of his work, and forced to produce a propaganda film. This film was intended to falsely portray supposed humane living conditions for Jews under Nazi rule.
Gad expressed that the film's themes are particularly relevant today, aiming to create important conversations. Director Simon Curtis emphasized the powerful script and Gad's casting, noting the film will explore the vital role of the arts during difficult periods.
The film, titled 'Gerron's Last Film,' is scheduled to commence shooting in the third quarter of 2026. It is being produced by Pie Films, with international sales handled by Rocket Science.
