Their paths cross with Pilar, a Spanish doctor, at the Hotel Nacional's bar. There, they encounter Rubén, a seasoned Cuban bartender played by Perugorría, who guides them through forgotten cocktails. The film explores their developing bond as they navigate Havana, confronting their pasts.
Perugorría's character, Rubén, is a 60-year-old Havana resident with over 30 years of experience at the Hotel Nacional bar. He serves as a confidant to tourists, and the arrival of Bruno and Pilar will significantly impact him.
Director Diego Corsini aims to commence filming early next year, acknowledging the current economic complexities in Cuba but expressing optimism due to the Cuban people's adaptability and the support of local partners like i4films and ICAIC.
The iconic Hotel Nacional itself is integral to the film's narrative, considered a character within the story. Production is spearheaded by Cinescalas (Spain), TVZero (Brazil), and i4films (Cuba). The Iberseries & Platino Industria Co-Production and Financing Forum is also involved.
