Summary
- Jon Cryer learned he was considered for Ferris Bueller
- Cryer admits feeling jealous of Matthew Broderick's role
- Cryer only knew he was up for Alan Ruck's character

Jon Cryer has revealed his surprise upon learning that he was considered for the lead role of Ferris Bueller. In an excerpt from the upcoming book "Ferris Bueller...You're My Hero: The Story of the World's Most Famous Day Off," Cryer stated that this information was "news to me." He had previously understood he was only in contention for the role of Cameron Frye, Ferris's friend, which was ultimately played by Alan Ruck.
Cryer admitted to feeling "a little jealous" at the time, noting that "Ferris Bueller sounded a little more antically comedic" than his role in "Pretty in Pink." He expressed that it would have been a "fun project to do with him." While Anthony Michael Hall has also been rumored for the lead, Hughes never publicly confirmed it. Cryer and Broderick, who were often compared in the 1980s, no longer get mistaken for each other.
