Depp provided Dane with rent-free accommodation in one of his Los Angeles homes, situated above the Sunset Strip. This act of kindness was intended to help Dane focus on his health and family during his courageous battle with amyotrophic lateral sclerosis (ALS).

Dane publicly shared his ALS diagnosis ten months before his death on Thursday. His family confirmed his passing, stating he was surrounded by loved ones and had become an advocate for ALS awareness and research. Dane's battle with the swift-progressing disease began with noticing weakness in his right hand in early 2024, leading to his diagnosis in April of that year.
