John Oliver's Soap Opera Cameo Revealed!

Executive producer Ken Corday orchestrated a guest appearance for John Oliver on "Days of Our Lives" after the host expressed his desire to act in a soap opera. Oliver appeared as Devlin St. John, a "nerdy" chief water inspector, in a three-episode arc that aired in early August. The storyline was crafted to accommodate Oliver's comedic preferences, which included a request for a slap and a dramatic close-up.

Oliver's character meddled in Salem's affairs, facing consequences for his actions. He shared scenes with established cast members like Susan Seaforth Hayes and Jackée Harry. Corday noted that Oliver adopted a significantly different look and persona for the role, far removed from his "Last Week Tonight" image.

Despite his comedic background, Oliver approached the role as a "serious actor," matching the show's fast-paced filming schedule and handling complex dialogue with ease. Corday praised his professionalism, calling him a "consummate professional" and a "great actor."

"Days of Our Lives" is set to celebrate its 61st anniversary in November. The show's producers remain open to future guest stars, with Corday expressing interest in actors like Julia Roberts and Brad Pitt. Oliver had previously guest-starred on "General Hospital" in June.
