A significant piece of Beatles history is heading to auction, with a life-size bronze statue of John Lennon on Liverpool's iconic Penny Lane expected to achieve a high price. The sculpture, known as the John Lennon Peace Statue, has been a fixture outside St Barnabas Church since August 2022. Artist Laura Lian created this nearly 6ft tall artwork, which depicts the musician leaning on a peace symbol inscribed with the word "Imagine".
The statue is cast in bronze and features a green patina, mounted on a robust bronze and steel base. Omega Auctions is scheduled to offer the piece for sale on September 29. Bidding is anticipated to reach between £70,000 and £100,000. A replica will be installed at the site once the original statue is sold, preserving its presence in the area made famous by The Beatles' 1967 song.
