Blindness on Set: Leguizamo's Odyssey Challenge

John Leguizamo has shared his challenging experience on the set of Christopher Nolan's "The Odyssey," a blockbuster currently playing in theaters. Leguizamo portrayed Eumaeus, a blind servant to Odysseus, played by Matt Damon.

To embody the character, Leguizamo wore contact lenses that severely limited his vision for up to 14 hours each day. This impairment meant he could not see his phone, read, or navigate without assistance, relying on others to guide him for basic needs like eating and using the restroom.

This prolonged visual deprivation led Leguizamo to spend extensive time in his own thoughts, a state he described as potentially "dangerous." The film adaptation draws from one of history's earliest narratives, chronicling Odysseus's decade-long voyage home after the Trojan War, facing numerous trials and mythical encounters.
