John Legend to Portray Harry Belafonte

John Legend will embody the iconic Harry Belafonte in the Studiocanal production "The Road Home," a music drama currently being filmed in South Africa. The film also stars Thabo Rametsi as Hugh Masekela, a South African jazz trumpeter and anti-apartheid activist.

Directed by Bill Condon and written by Michael Bronner, the narrative explores Masekela's involvement in the anti-apartheid movement and his disagreements with mentor Archbishop Trevor Huddleston over collaborations with Paul Simon. Masekela believed African music could globalize the movement.

Legend, an EGOT winner, conveyed his deep respect for Belafonte, calling him a "monumental, revolutionary life" and a benchmark for artists and activists. The film's production involves a notable team of producers and global distribution plans by Studiocanal and Palisades Park Pictures.
