Comedian Joanne McNally, born in County Roscommon in 1983, has openly discussed her past struggles with bulimia. During her 20s, while working in PR and enjoying a vibrant social life in Dublin, her eating disorder escalated. A shift to working for a mental health charity in her late 20s, intending to improve her headspace, inadvertently led to a worsening of her condition due to increased solitude.
In her early 30s, McNally experienced a significant mental breakdown, leading her to move back home and temporarily withdraw from her career. This period, though challenging, provided a crucial turning point. She found an unexpected path to healing and self-expression through theatre and, subsequently, stand-up comedy, encouraged by comedian PJ Gallagher.
Her career gained momentum with the success of her one-woman show 'Bite Me' and the 'Prosecco Express' tour. She also co-hosts the widely popular podcast 'My Therapist Ghosted Me' with Vogue Williams. McNally's current standup show, 'Pinotphile,' is touring Ireland and the UK until December. She also hosts 'Unacceptable' on TLC.
