Starr initially worked on the show's choreography team before becoming a dancer. She recalled that during rehearsals, Lopez would frequently critique the dancers' appearances, telling them they 'look like s---.' Starr found these comments embarrassing, particularly after being asked to remove her shirt during an evaluation by Lopez. She noted that while Lopez was kind to child performers, adult dancers received harsh criticism. Starr stated that the intense rehearsals, which lasted for months, felt like 'hell' despite it being a significant career opportunity. The experience led Starr to declare she would not dance for Lopez again. Additionally, Starr alleged that she and other dancers were asked to sign releases for Lopez's 2022 documentary, 'Halftime,' without pay. After her team intervened, she reportedly received a $20 check as compensation, which she found insulting and returned.
