The independent anime film "Jinsei," meaning 'life' in Japanese, is the debut feature of director Ryuya Suzuki. Suzuki wrote, directed, edited, and hand-drew the entire film over 18 months.
The movie chronicles a hero's surreal odyssey spanning a century as he searches for his identity through various life roles, including a J-pop idol. Professional rapper Ace Cool voices the protagonist.
"Jinsei" premiered at the Annecy Film Festival and the Tokyo International Film Festival. It will have its U.S. premiere at the IFC Center on June 5, followed by a nationwide release on June 12.
