A section of West Eighth Street in Greenwich Village will be officially co-named 'Jimi Hendrix Way' on February 24th. This street is significant as it is the location of Electric Lady Studios, a recording studio founded by the legendary guitarist in 1970. The ceremony, scheduled for 11 a.m., will include remarks from Jimi Hendrix's sister, Janie Hendrix, and musician Stevie Van Zandt.
Janie Hendrix, leading Experience Hendrix LLC, collaborated with Stevie Van Zandt's TeachRock nonprofit for this honor. TeachRock is launching a new educational lesson focused on Hendrix's musical innovation. The lesson utilizes archival footage and interviews to explore his roots and influence.
Hendrix and his manager acquired the property in 1968, intending it as a concert venue. However, it was transformed into Electric Lady Studios, which opened on August 26, 1970. Despite Hendrix's untimely death weeks later, the studio has since hosted numerous iconic artists.
