Jesy Nelson: SMA Diagnosis Led to Breakup

Jesy Nelson recently disclosed the painful cause of her separation from fiancé Zion Foster, occurring merely four months post-engagement. The former Little Mix member and Foster ended their four-year relationship weeks after announcing their twin daughters, Ocean Jade and Story Monroe, were diagnosed with SMA Type 1, a severe genetic condition causing muscle degeneration. Nelson explained in an interview that the profound trauma they experienced collectively altered their relationship's energy, leading them to prioritize co-parenting their daughters.

Nelson had endured a complicated pregnancy, including learning her twins were monochorionic diamniotic (MCDA) identical and suffered twin-to-twin transfusion syndrome (TTTS). While relieved by their birth, the SMA diagnosis six months later was devastating. She is now advocating for universal newborn screening for spinal muscular atrophy, stressing that early detection significantly aids muscle development.
