Screenwriter Diablo Cody has revealed that a sequel to the 2009 horror-comedy "Jennifer's Body" is "imminent." Speaking on the "Petticoat Revolution" podcast, Cody expressed her intention to delve deeper into the character of Jennifer, played by Megan Fox, aiming for a more sympathetic portrayal.
Cody described Jennifer as a character who is often remembered for her power but also experienced significant isolation and insecurity. She stated that the upcoming sequel will further explore the reasons behind Jennifer's sympathetic nature and her past experiences.
The news follows Amanda Seyfried's earlier hints in March 2025 that a sequel was being worked on. Seyfried starred in the original film as Needy Lesnicki, Jennifer's best friend. The 2009 movie, directed by Karyn Kusama, was written by Cody but initially received poor reviews.
Cody recently reflected on the film's journey, expressing gratitude for its cult following which emerged years after its disappointing initial reception. She acknowledged the pain of the movie being "trashed" upon release and suggested that both she and Fox faced criticism due to their outspokenness at the time.
