25 Feb
Summary
- Co-parenting involves a sense of loss, according to Garner.
- Garner steps into both 'mom and dad' roles for her children.
- She finds value in co-parenting despite the challenges.

Jennifer Garner, 53, recently discussed the inherent difficulties of co-parenting her three children—Violet, 20; Fin, 17; and Samuel, 13—with her ex-husband, Ben Affleck. Garner explained on Bustle's One Nightstand YouTube series that when the children are with her, she must fulfill both parental roles, a situation that brings a palpable "loss."
She elaborated that raising children across two separate households means parents cannot provide the full spectrum of "yin and yang" within a single home. However, Garner also highlighted that this co-parenting dynamic results in "something gained" and fosters personal growth, enabling her to relinquish certain aspects of control.
Reflecting on her past, Garner also spoke about the profound difficulty of her divorce from Affleck, which concluded in 2018. She emphasized that the "actual breaking up of a family" and the loss of a partnership were the most challenging parts.
Garner, who has consistently prioritized her children despite her Hollywood career, also touched upon the media scrutiny her family faced, particularly after Affleck's reunion and subsequent marriage to Jennifer Lopez. Garner shared that she hopes her perspective might offer solace to other women navigating difficult life seasons, assuring them that "time will go on and you will get to the other side."
