Last month, singer-songwriter Charlie Puth's Blue Note Jazz Club residency made its way from New York City to Los Angeles. During one of the Friday night performances, Puth welcomed a surprise celebrity guest to the stage: actor and jazz pianist Jeff Goldblum.
"I love to give a new up-and-coming singer a chance," Puth joked before inviting Goldblum to join him. The two then collaborated on a pair of songs, including a rendition of the jazz standard "Every Time We Say Goodbye" and an improvised take on Cyndi Lauper's classic "Time After Time."
Goldblum then proceeded to quiz the audience of much-younger Puth fans on which film he had starred in alongside Lauper. To everyone's surprise, including Puth's, the correct answer was the 1988 comedy "Vibes."
Puth's Blue Note residency is in support of his upcoming studio album "Whatever's Clever," set for release on March 6, 2026. Earlier this year, he debuted several tracks from the album during his four-night stint at the New York City venue, with one show featuring a cameo from one of Puth's songwriting heroes, Kenneth "Babyface" Edmonds.
The Los Angeles residency is set to continue through this weekend, with two more shows scheduled for Saturday and Sunday night.
