Summary
- Jay-Z has reintroduced the umlaut to his name.
- The name change is visible on ads for upcoming shows.
- This harkens back to his early career and 'Reasonable Doubt'.

Shawn Corey Carter, widely known as Jay-Z, has reintroduced the umlaut to his stage name. This stylistic change, featuring the diacritical mark over the 'Y,' is now prominently displayed on advertisements for his upcoming concerts.
The rapper's name alteration is visible for his July performances at Yankee Stadium, which include dates dedicated to his albums 'Reasonable Doubt' and 'The Blueprint.' This move consciously references his early career, as the umlaut was featured on album and single covers, including 'Reasonable Doubt,' released in 1996.
This updated moniker is now reflected on major streaming services such as Spotify, Tidal, YouTube, and Apple Music. Jay-Z is also set to perform with The Roots at the Roots Picnic in Philadelphia on May 30, with promotional materials for that event also highlighting the name change.
Jay-Z previously altered his name in 2013, removing the hyphen. He has also styled his name in all caps in the past. His last full solo album was '4:44' in 2017, followed by the collaborative album 'Everything Is Love' with Beyoncé in 2018.
