Jay Weinberg, previously a member of Slipknot, has disclosed a period in his life where he faced significant legal obstacles that prevented him from collaborating with other musicians. He described this phase as deeply challenging, stating that a portion of his creative identity felt like it was "dying" due to these limitations.
Weinberg noted that some of the musical material he has been working on, including for his solo projects and new band Portraits of an Apparition, dates back more than a decade, with some ideas originating as early as 2013. While he continued to create music privately, the inability to share or release it with collaborators added to his frustration.
He emphasized the importance of collaborative creation and sharing music with diverse artists from various backgrounds. This contrasts with his more recent activities, which include touring with Suicidal Tendencies, recording with Fuming Mouth, and releasing new music with Softcult. Weinberg's departure from Slipknot occurred in the fall of 2023, following a decade with the band.
