Summary
- Javed Akhtar declined writing for 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' due to its title.
- Lyricist Sameer Anjaan sought Javed Akhtar's permission before accepting.
- The film's music was later declared the best of the century.

The iconic film 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' almost missed out on its renowned lyrics due to a title dispute. Javed Akhtar, initially slated to write the songs, withdrew from the project because he deemed the title 'Kuch Kuch Hota Hai' to be vulgar. He advised director Karan Johar to change it, a suggestion that was not taken.
Lyricist Sameer Anjaan, respecting Akhtar as a father figure, contacted him before accepting the assignment. Akhtar reiterated his reservations, warning Sameer about the director's adamant nature. However, upon hearing the narration, Sameer was deeply impressed by the story and Karan Johar's conviction.
Sameer Anjaan clarified that he was approached for the film by Yash Chopra, not Karan Johar directly. Yash Chopra had recommended Sameer, a younger lyricist, to Karan Johar. This collaboration led to songs that were later celebrated as the best of the century, a blessing Sameer attributes to divine intervention.
