Summary

- Akhtar refused to write new verses for Border 2's iconic songs.

Veteran lyricist Javed Akhtar recently shared his high praise for the film Dhurandhar, starring Ranveer Singh. He described the espionage thriller as a "great film, very well-made" and even took the initiative to call director Aditya Dhar personally to extend his congratulations.
In a separate development, Akhtar found himself in the spotlight for his stance on creative reuse. The production team for the upcoming war film Border 2 had approached the 81-year-old lyricist to write new verses for its classic tracks. Akhtar, however, firmly rejected the offer.
He articulated his strong objection to the modern trend of re-envisioning established hits, deeming it a sign of "intellectual and creative bankruptcy." Akhtar emphasized that creators should either produce original work or acknowledge their inability to match past achievements, rather than resorting to recreating old successes.
