Gilmore Girls Star Jared Padalecki Recalls Cherished Moments with Late Co-Star Edward Herrmann

In a recent interview, Jared Padalecki, who played Dean on the beloved TV series Gilmore Girls, shared heartwarming memories of working with his late co-star Edward Herrmann, who portrayed the role of Richard Gilmore. Padalecki, now 43 years old, recalled an unexpected encounter with Herrmann during a long day of filming the "The Bracebridge Dinner" episode.

Padalecki, who was reading one of the Lord of the Rings books at the time, was impressed when Herrmann, who passed away from brain cancer in 2014, engaged him in a conversation about the book, effortlessly reciting quotes from the scene. "I think he had an eidetic memory," Padalecki marveled, noting that Herrmann's intellectual prowess and kindness made a lasting impression on him as a young actor.

Padalecki, who was just starting out in his career, said Herrmann's welcoming attitude helped him feel like he belonged on the Gilmore Girls set. "He just treated me like an equal," Padalecki recalled. "I was like, 'Maybe I can do this.'"

Padalecki's co-star, Matt Czuchry, who played Rory's boyfriends Dean and Logan, echoed similar sentiments about the tight-knit camaraderie on the Gilmore Girls set. Czuchry, now 48, fondly remembered feeling welcomed by the show's creators, Amy Sherman-Palladino and Dan Palladino, even as the "new kid on the block" when he joined the series in its fifth season.

The enduring legacy of Gilmore Girls, which premiered 25 years ago, is a testament to the show's ability to forge deep connections with its audience. As Czuchry observed, the series has "infused in people's lives in such an incredible way," transcending mere television viewing and becoming a cherished part of fans' personal experiences.
