His work has included executive producing Netflix's live-action adaptation of One Piece and consulting for Nintendo on its upcoming The Legend of Zelda feature film.
The success of the One Piece adaptation, in particular, has set a new standard for how Japanese IP is handled in Hollywood. Unlike previous attempts, the One Piece series has seen deep involvement from the beloved manga's author, Eiichiro Oda, who has had a direct hand in creative decisions and communicated directly with fans. This approach has resonated with audiences, and Fujimura believes it is a model that other Japanese IP owners will increasingly demand as they look to protect their characters and fanbases.
As Japan's entertainment industry continues to grow in global significance, Fujimura's role as a bridge-builder between the two markets has become increasingly vital. With major studios and streamers pouring more resources into acquiring and adapting Japanese content, the country's "treasure box of IP" is poised to become an even more valuable asset for the global entertainment landscape.
