Bandai Namco Filmworks has initiated a significant project titled 'Pursuing The Future,' involving six prominent animation studios. This collaboration is designed to highlight advancements in Japanese animation technology and creative vision. The project will feature six distinct 3D CG animated short films, each produced in partnership with a different studio.
The first two completed shorts, 'Dice With Demon' by Sunrise Studios and 'Metafear' by Yamatoworks, offer a glimpse into the project's ambitious goals. Directed by Hidekazu O'Hara, 'Dice With Demon' draws inspiration from classical Japanese scrolls and is set in Heian-era Japan. 'Metafear,' directed by Shuhei Morita, is a fast-paced fantasy about a girl's nightmares, featuring character design by Tatsuyuki Tanaka.
Bandai Namco stated that these films represent a unique opportunity realized at this particular time, brought to life by veteran animators and emerging talents. While details on the remaining four shorts are still forthcoming, the participation of internationally acclaimed creators has been confirmed. The project is set to be presented at the Annecy International Animation Film Festival in France next week.
