Janhvi Kapoor Stars in New Film After Controversy

Janhvi Kapoor is set to star in an upcoming untitled film, her first project announced a month after the "Peddi" controversy. She will collaborate for the first time with "Pagglait" director Umesh Bist. The film is being produced jointly by Ekta Kapoor's Balaji Motion Pictures and Guneet Monga's Sikhya Entertainment, with principal photography expected to commence around October-November this year.

Meanwhile, director Umesh Bist is also expected to direct "Pagglait 2," the sequel to the successful 2021 film "Pagglait." Janhvi Kapoor's role in "Peddi" had previously ignited a significant debate concerning the representation of women in commercial cinema, with many viewers criticizing camera angles and romantic scenes for objectifying her character.

Following the public outcry, "Peddi" director Buchi Babu Sana issued an apology and removed the contentious scenes. The controversy also elicited responses from various industry figures, who advocated for stronger female characters and a paradigm shift in the depiction of women in mainstream Bollywood.
